MRC organises regular volunteer training
courses. These courses go over a few days and are in direct
response to the need of training identified by many of the MRC
clients and community leaders and follows the tradition that the Hills Holroyd Parramatta MRC started years ago.
The course aimed at recruiting volunteers and developing
knowledge of and skills in order to improve access to services by
especially new and emerging communities.
The program includes sessions on the following topics:
Historical perspective of migration Overview of current
immigration system Needs and issues of
migrants Multiculturalism and cultural diversity Introduction
of key settlement services such as housing, employment education and
health Skills for volunteers Customer service
skills Individual and group work Capacity building and
networking
