Settlement Grants Program (SGP)

Iraqi SGP Project

The project provides casework, referrals and group information sessions to newly arrived Arabic speakers with a focus on Iraqis in Central Western Sydney. The project aims to improve access to mainstream services and to enhance the capacity of the community as a whole to integrate and participate fully in the wider Australian community.

The project provides cultural orientation through the delivery of linguistically and culturally sensitive information to the target group through information sessions & workshops addressing a number of issues including social isolation, literacy, employment, education, financial management, housing and health. The project also aims to raise awareness of the needs affecting the Arabic speaking community and in particular the issues that Iraqi new arrivals are confronting with.

Community development is also facilitated through activities including developing and supporting community groups to organise, support, advocate for and promote their communities positively.
