Indian Sub-continent SGP Project
The Settlement Grants Program for new migrants and refugees from the Indian sub-continent (South Asian region) has been established to address the unique needs of this community through a well orchestrated and coordinated approach. The program aims at breaking down the key settlement barriers in the areas of employment, education, English language competency, financial hardship, housing and social isolation encountered by new migrants from India, Sri Lanka, Pakistan, Bangladesh, Nepal and Bhutan in Central Western Sydney living in local government areas of the Hills Shire, Holroyd and Parramatta. This is achieved through casework and group information sessions. As the South Asian community is characterised by their "unity in diversity", the program is aimed at identifying and addressing individual issues as well as those that affect the entire community.
