The Burmese Project
The Burmese Project provides casework, referrals and information sessions for newly arrived Burmese, Karen and Rohingyas in Central Western Sydney and Canterbury-Bankstown. The project aims to improve access to mainstream services, and enhance the capacity of the community as a whole to integrate and participate fully in the wider community.
The project provides cultural orientation/life skills through the delivery of linguistically and culturally sensitive information to the target group through a series of information sessions & workshops addressing a number of issues including social isolation, literacy, financial management, employment, education, housing and health. A number of community development and capacity building programs assist the target group in their settlement journey, such as advocacy training and weekly support groups. The project also provides cross cultural awareness training for service providers and aims to promote the needs of communities from Burma.
